How the network is built.
We own, operate and maintain the network: the core, an expansive network of fibre assets across Sydney Metro, South West, Eastern and Western Sydney, and the fibre to your floor. It connects to the places that matter rather than to everywhere, and every enterprise service runs on dedicated fibre. This page sets out each layer in the detail a network manager wants before signing.
- Wavelength, per service
- 400Gbps
- Layer 2 Ethernet, per service
- 100Gbps
- Dedicated internet, per service
- 25Gbps
- On net, business days to connect
- 10days
Five stages from the internet to your floor
Left to right: where your traffic goes, what carries it, and what each stage is for.
- Internet and cloud
- IP transit and peering in Sydney
- Cloud on-ramps to AWS, Azure and Google Cloud
Multiple upstreams - Core, Sydney
- Point of presence in Sydney
- Own autonomous system and IP space
- Dual routers, no single point of failure
Dark fibre, diverse paths - Backhaul
- Dark fibre from the core to each precinct
- Lit at 10 Gbps, upgradable to 100 Gbps
Precinct distribution - Building
- Dedicated bidirectional fibre to your tenancy
- CommScope infrastructure, Corning fibre
Fibre to the tenancy - Your service
- Business-grade router, or your own
- Static IP, symmetrical speed
What is there, and why it matters
| Layer | What is there | Why it matters to you |
|---|---|---|
| Core | Dual routers on our own autonomous system (AS150127) with IPv4 and IPv6 address space registered with APNIC. | No single point of failure in the core, and addressing we control, so static IPs and larger blocks are ours to assign on the day. |
| Upstreams and exchanges | IP transit from more than one upstream, and direct connections to the places that matter: data centres in Sydney, Melbourne and South East Queensland, Megaport, IX Australia, Console Connect and Equinix Fabric. We do not name upstreams. | Your traffic takes the short path to where it needs to go, and one upstream failing is an event in a log, not an outage. |
| Backhaul | Our own fibre between the core, our points of presence and the enterprise locations they serve, dark or lit from 1 to 400 Gbps, diverse where the route allows. | Capacity is ours to turn up as an area grows, not a service we queue for. |
| Enterprise access | Dedicated fibre to your tenancy for every business and enterprise service. CommScope infrastructure, Corning fibre, HDPE subduct and lockable pits. | Nothing shared on the path to you, hard to get at, and glass that will carry 100 Gbps without digging the street again. |
| Monitoring | A dedicated sensing fibre across the network detects movement and intrusion along the route in real time, beside the usual monitoring of every service from core to handover port. | A crew is dispatched on the anomaly, not after a call. |
| Your service | A standard demarcation device as the handover. Behind it, your own router, or a business-grade router we design and manage for the requirement. Private VLANs extendable from the portal and API. | Your network team keeps control of their side; ours keeps the link up and reports on it monthly. |
Who is watching it at 3am
A network and security operations centre runs around the clock, with the authority and the tools to fix what it finds.
Faults are worked at any hour by the network and security operations centre, by people who can dispatch a crew, not a desk that opens a ticket for one.
Every business service is monitored from the core to the handover port, and a sensing fibre watches the routes themselves. Many faults are seen and worked before the customer notices.
The network status page is public: the core network is measured every minute, and the record is shown with its outages.
Availability, utilisation and incidents for your services, by email, every month. Dedicated services get a named contact.
The licences and memberships behind the service
The parts a procurement team asks about, listed so they do not have to ask.
- One owner, one networkHypernet has acquired the assets of Fiberco, the licensed carrier that built the fibre. Carrier licence 605, held since 2023, is being migrated into the Hypernet Group.
- Lawful obligations metInterception capability and data retention plans are lodged with and approved by the Communications Access Coordinator, as the Telecommunications Act requires of a carrier.
- Our own addressesHypernet is an APNIC member with its own IPv4 and IPv6 allocations and its own autonomous system, AS150127.
- Complaints with teethA member of the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman scheme. If we cannot resolve a complaint, you can take it to the TIO, and we tell you so.
- Australian owned and runHypernet Pty Ltd. The core, the field crews and the people who answer are here in Australia.
Business districts and precincts, not postcodes.
An expansive network of fibre assets across Sydney Metro, South West Sydney, Eastern Sydney and Western Sydney, out toward Penrith. Business services are sold by tier: on net, connected in 10 business days; near net, 30 to 60 days; off net, a quoted build. Residential fibre is built one precinct at a time, starting with the Rhodes estate.
